Gypsum board, commonly known as drywall, plasterboard, or wallboard, is a panel product used globally to form the interior walls and ceilings of buildings. Its core is primarily composed of gypsum (calcium sulfate dihydrate), a non-combustible mineral, which is calcined to remove water and then rehydrated with additives to form a slurry. This slurry is poured between two continuous sheets of heavy paper (face paper and back paper) and allowed to set into a solid, rigid panel. The paper facings provide tensile strength and a surface for finishing, while additives in the core can impart properties like mold resistance, moisture resistance, or enhanced fire resistance.
